The Benefits of a Deadbolt

Are you worried for your family’s safety but lack the funds to procure a top of the line alarm system? You don’t have to spend lots of money to keep your family safe. There are a lot of options out there to help you keep your family secure, and it can be daunting try to find out just what will work for your family or business safety needs, while meeting your budget needs. For their strength and durability, Hosse & Hosse recommend starting with deadbolts as an affordable solution. They provide top of the line protection without a top of the line price.

What is it?

A deadbolt is a type of lock that has a steel bolt that extends into the door jamb and strike plate of a door frame. The most common type is a single cylinder, which is operated by a twist knob on the inside and by a key from the outside. There is also a double cylinder, which requires a key for both sides. Both are great choices for your overall security.

How do they work, and which do I choose?

For a deadbolt to be successful at keeping out intruders, the bolt must extend completely into the hole on the frame designated for it. The hole needs to be reinforced with a metal strike plate because if a door gets kicked in, it keeps the frame from being compromised. Keep in mind though that a single cylinder door can still be breached if you have glass panels, they can be broken and the burglar can reach in and turn the knob. A double cylinder protects against this because a key has to be used on the inside to unlock.
